Editing the subject line can be a powerful technique that can help you easily find the message later, or if the message still requires some follow-up, it can help you quickly document the action that you would like to take next. Here are the steps involved in editing the subject line of an e-mail message that was sent to you and that resides now in your Microsoft Outlook e-mail inbox:
1. Open the message by double clicking on it in the inbox for instance.
2. Put the cursor in the subject text by clicking on the desired location in the subject field.
3. Make your edits by typing the desired changes. You can add text, edit text, delete text, just as you would when editing any text field.
4. Save your changes by selecting File -> Save from the menu or using the shortcut keys Ctrl + S.
The message now has the updated subject line, and you can flag it or file it appropriately for future reference.
